I Cant Work Out If Male For Sure?

Hi, im sorry to be a pain but im a first time betta keeper I hope this post is in the right place, ive looked and looked at pictures online and I know its probably hard for you to tell with my blurry photos but though I was told this is a male my friend insists it isnt, so was hopeing you could help? thanks xx if more photos are needed ill try again! x

It's a male Betta splendens, I think your friend says its a female as it has relatively short fins. There are many more indications of finding out the gender. All of which indicate that he is a male
 
Yes, this is definately a male fighter...
You can tell because of his extremely vibrant red (Which I must point out is VERY stunning) And his fins that flow instead of stand up straight.
Female Bettas are generally fatter around the abdomen...with a white egg spot on their rectum and very dull colouration...
Their fins are also rounded, and seem to have no life about them, where-as males (even if they are a short finned breed) always have fins that seem to flow behind them like a veil :)
 
He's very much like my own red veil tail whose fins grew a lot after I'd had him a few weeks. With excellent water conditions and a little feeding up your boy's fins hopefully will grow to become quite luxuriant too.
