so i was looking in my fry tank just now and i there was one baby that was at the bottom "dying" so i scooped him up and looked and he has dropsy. the scales are just starting to stick out. i dont want the tank to get sick i have dedicated my life to those 60 or so fry! how can i prevent any others from getting it?

please help! :-(

Do any of the others show signs of dropsy. If the fry is not dead try to put him in a quarantine tank. Wait for someone else to give you the treatment. One thing I do know is when any disease comes or if something is wrong do a water change. It can always help.

thanks. i will do a big water change and all of the other fish are fine i think. and i think i heard that dropsy is not curable. is that true?

should i rise the temp? (i put salt in earlier even when i didnt know)

Dropsy is not an illness, it is a symptom. When the fish is so ill that it cannot regulate the amount of fluid in its body, it's more-or-less too late to save it. The symptom could be caused by a number of illnesses, some of which are contagious, some of which aren't.

I can't answer as to whether to raise temperature, because that may or may not be appropriate for the particular problem. I would suggest you don't raise the temperature, though. I do suggest making sure the water is as pristine as it can be.

Just let your fish do its thing. if it survives great and if it doesn't it is ok. It is also a symptom of indegestion so it might have a chance and I don't think that your other fish will get it but do a few water changes over the next few days just to be safe.

the fish did die shortly after i started this thread. i have been checking the other fish they look fine. i was looking up how to treat/prevent dropsy so i added aquarium salt like they said i am keeping a close eye on them and i did do a water change yesterday and will do one tomorrow.
