Just wandering if anyone knows of any freshwater insectovor that i can buy, or if they have one, or a link to a page about a freshwater insectovor....

The African butterfly fish (Pantodon buchholzi)is a avid insectovor as is the common Archer fish (toxotes jaculatrix) although the latter prefers a little salt in the water,if you want something on the larger size Arrowana are insectovors in the wild but in a aquarium seem to prefer other fish.

Just want a different type of fish, i breed swords, guppies, and barbs. I am getting a 29 gal tank, compared to my 5 ten gal tanks, and I want to fill my large tank with different fish, so it can me kinda of show tank, I would gladdly take any suggestions on any other fish, plus i want a insectovor because my better half breeds spiders, so we have a surplus of crickets! thank ya'll

I take it you're talking Mygale Genus ('Tarantulas' to me and you, however not true Tarantulas... these are found in Southern Europe and the word comes from a Gypsy dance called the Tarantella! More useless info for you all :p ). Try feeding some of the Crickets good quality vitamin supplement, this should get passed on to your fish.
We get Butterflyfish at work, why I don't know.... great fish but as has been stated they are fairly specialised feeders. Some people don't realise how finnicky feeders they can be. Glad you've done your research cherrylt04, and good luck. You're on the right track! :)

For a 29 gallon, African butterflies would be your best bet. Most fish will eat crickets of the appropriate size.

I don't know about crickets, but any carnivorous or omnivorous fish will eat insects as long as its small enough. Sometimes I get these tiny, tiny moths in my house and if I can catch them with tweezers I feed them to fish...the sparkling gouramis and peacock gobies love them the most :hey:

So... What I said. :shout: :hey:

Wow, I think this is the oldest thread I've seen revived! 2003?!

I think the OP might have found something by now :p

I'd just like to add that archers in captivity soon learn that if they just wait, any insects you put in will drop into the water, so they don't do the shooting for very long.

Pretty much any surface feeding fish will eat insects and insect larvae. Its actually harder for me to think of fish that wont take insects. Only the big ones may not be intrested in insects that are too small.

Bloody hell 2003!!! Scrap my comment!

I aint "necroposted" for years. lol
Rainbow fish are a good bet too.
