I have some hyprophila polysperma and its now growing above the water. What is the deal with this stuff? I'm no plant expert and I think this is my first thread in the planted section.
Can I just cut it and replant in another tank?

yes. :)

Snip with scissors (or your fingernail) and replant. And repeat as needed until you have a nice thicket :)

Well the tank its in is completely covered in it. Its only a 2x1 ft with no lighting only natural sunlight. Seems to like the placement its in.

Thanks by the way.

Would this plant be ok if it left it to carry on growing a wee bit above water? Or would it be bad for it?

It generally kicks over when it reaches the surface from my experience and just grows along the surface of the water.

This is about an inch and a half above the surface of the water and doesn't seem to be doing anything other than going up. Its a lidless tank with no lights.

So it will be fine?
I kinda like the idea of it being all overgrown.

There was some "aquatic compost" at a garden centre I was at yesterday and was very cheap so I think I might get it as there is only gravel as substrate at the minute.

yeah it should be, most aquatic plants are actually only semi aquatic so they can happily grow both above and below the water line :good:

Thanks coldcazzie for your help.

I wouldn't actually call myself a plant person as I know nothing about them but I intend to get there one day.

I cannot have plants in my main tank as the severum like them too much.

Only been experimenting really.
