I was in my lfs a few days ago, and while in there looking at the few tanks they have, hiding behind one of the filters i spotted an adult veil tail with a torn tail and a bloated belly ( which the member of staff said 'looks like she's ready for mating'. )
He was very shy and unhappy, and although a love my half moon's, he was only £5 and i had a cycled tank sat empty after a misfortunate accident with the last betta.
So guess what!
Here he is not hiding anymore, his belly has gone down and hopefully his tail gets better :)
Although i still prefer the look of half moons, there is also something pleasing about giving one a better life

Bless him, I wonder where he'd have ended up if you hadn't taken him. He looks very nice :)

What.. another for a fiver! I paid 5 times that for my boy.

Nice fishy though, and congrats on giving him a good home :good:

Dean.

Glad he's doing well now he's in a good home.
My Lfs often has various males for £3.95, I'm always tempted, but haven't got room for any more

£5.00 is great for such a beautiful fish. I love halfmoons too but I always end up with veilfins because I just melt when I see them sitting in my LFS looking all sad and cramped :-( I swear one day I'll get a really gorgeous, properly bred show betta

Your new guy has lovely colouring. I hope he settles in happily.

Sounds like me. I've been looking all over for expensive HMs recently on the web, but the thought of leaving those VTs in the stores....
