Rate my tank setup, from stocking to equipment lol. I could use some criticism if it is due.

Volume: 20 Gallons (High)
Light: 24" Fluval AquaSky 2.0
Heater: AquaTop Titanium Heater 100W with digital controller
Filter(s): 1 x AuqaClear 20, 1 x AquaClear 50

Fish: 10 Zebra Danio's, 1 Dwarf Gourami, 1 Nerite Snail, 1 random yellow shrimp (not sure what it is) that hitchiked with my last shipment.
Plants: 5 Java Fern, 2 Amazon Sword, 5-6 Anacharis, 3 (soon to be) Anubias plants

I might put the yellow shrimp in my 10G shrimp tank. The reason I haven't yet it because it looks a little off to have 1 yellow shrimp mixed in with RCS and Amanos. But it might be safer... not sure if the DG will be hungry enough to eat the little guy. He's about 3/4 inch long.

Danios are very active fish, they would need a long tank. Be careful with the gourami, dwarf gouramies are notorious carriers of DGD, aka Iridovirus. You're good to go with the stocking to me.

Yeah, I heard the minimum for Danio's is 10 gallons. Which probably isn't ideal. Can they thrive in a 20 gallon high?

Zebra danios are very active fish - some people who keep them say that can cross a 5 foot tank in under a second. It is this fast swimming which means they do need a long tank - 36 inches/90 cm is considered the smallest tank length they should be kept in.

You will read lots of things on-line, and a lot of those things are inaccurate. Anyone can set up a website and sound knowledgable. YouTube is one of the worst sites for this. Always use a reputable site for research - just about the best one is https://www.seriouslyfish.com/knowledge-base/

Welcome to TFF. :hi:

Essjay hit the nail on the head. Less active fish would be a better choice for a basic (high) 20g. The Dwarf Gourami is suited to the space, and notwithstanding the iridovirus risk which is real, there are more suitable fish to house with the DG. Danios are not one of them, due to their activity. And in time they may suddenly decide to fin nip the DG.

True, I have heard varying information about this. I have a 20G high, 10G, and a 55G (that is still being set up). I will probably move them into the 55 once it is all ready (looking for good deals on equipment).

Thank you! So far I've had the DG for 2 months, and luckily no issues with health (knock on wood).

It's crazy, I watched a "reputable" YouTuber suggest Danios for 10 gallon tanks. Like they say though, surviving and thriving are two different things. Gonna move the Danios into my 55 once its ready.
