Asian Arowana a with intestinal disease (or inflammatory bowel disease) is a common health problem. Although it is a large-sized fish with a long life span, the arowana is very susceptible to disease when the environment and care regime is not guaranteed. Arowana has intestinal disease that makes them decline, very easy to die if not detected and treated promptly.
1. Arowana suffers from intestinal diseases due to water environment
Sudden changes in the water environment are one of the most common causes of fish disease. Due to changes in the pond water quality, the fish are moved to a new place, or provoked by external factors.

When encountering such cases, arowanas often suffer from intestinal inflammation. In addition, too poor water quality also causes disease for Arowanas. To prevent diseases, farmers need to monitor the parameters of the pond water. Make sure to maintain a stable environment in the aquarium.

Limit the sudden change in factors. If the fish unfortunately gets sick, it is not necessary to impatiently find medicine for treatment. Just stop feeding, slowly adjust the water. Avoid moving or frightening the fish, allowing the fish to rest for a few days can recover.
2. Arowana fish suffers from intestinal disease caused by parasites
Diseases in Dragon fish Due to the parasite there will be the following symptoms:

Due to the parasite : fish lying on the bottom of the aquarium. When passing stool is sticky in the anus, shaped like white thread. Fish refuses to eat, does not spread fins as usual.
Due to bacterial infection : the fish loses its fins, leaving white filamentous feces. Seriousness can cause death of the fish.
According to veterinariansFish infected with parasites mainly by food. Therefore, before feeding, they need to be handled cleanly and stored in the refrigerator will significantly reduce the risk of disease. If infected, it can be treated with some medicines specifically for Arowana. Change the water once every 3 days, each time change 1/3 of the tank water.

If the cause is due to infection, the feeding should be stopped, mixed 4-6 Norfloxacin tablets in 100L of water for treatment. If fins shrinkage occurs, fish bodies should be discolored, Oxytetracycline or Norfloxacin should be mixed with food. Feed fish continuously for 3 days.
3. Arowana fish suffers from intestinal disease caused by diet
Dragon fish food is not clean, can infect the fish with parasites. This leads to arowana suffering from intestinal disease, the symptom of long stools like white thread. At the same time there is a blurred, bulging eye phenomenon. Even the fish also has protruding anus, hemorrhoids, bloating.

Fish with digestive disorders can also lead to enteritis. Causes the Dragon fish to stop eating, the body becomes dark in color, frequently lying in one place.

To prevent diseases of Arowana with intestinal diseases, food should be handled before feeding. Prevent bacteria or parasites in food.

Use Furazolidone for treatment, mix 4-6 tablets in 100L of water. If you see the fish eating normally, the feces does not have a fiber form can stop the drug.

Inflammatory bowel disease in arowanas is a common disease, but should not be used arbitrarily. Avoid healing pigs into lame pigs. The most important thing is not to rush. Only correctly judging the disease, finding the right cause can be completely treated.
4. How to prevent disease for arowana asian fish
Arowana suffering from intestinal disease if not treated in time, it is quite dangerous. Many cases cannot even be completely cured. Therefore, it is best to prevent the arowana most thoroughly. Methods to cure Arowanas include:

Keep the water environment clean, temperature and pH are always stable. Regularly change water and filter the water for the Dragon aquarium regularly.

Arowana has intestinal disease caused by water environment. Therefore, be careful when changing water for fish. Do not change the water too often. But also do not leave the water old for too long in the tank.

In the cold season, fish should be fed sparingly and should not be fed near evening. Because at that time it starts to get cold, the low temperature makes the fish not digest well, leading to more susceptible to intestinal diseases. Avoid giving beef and other indigestible foods to Arowana. Ensure hygiene for fresh food

After feeding, all leftovers in the aquarium must be taken out, so as not to pollute the water environment. Do not give the arowana too much food. Balance the amount of food just enough so that there is not much leftovers in the tank.

In my opinion, as long as you feed them with live food, you will have internal infections.

I guess your only solution is to do frequent deworming or use other medications to treat the internal infection.

You can read in the news of the increase of people who are infected with worms in their stomach due to eating raw fish(sashimi, etc) or raw meat.(beef, etc).
Animals are of no exception. If they eat live food/uncooked food, they will be infected too.

okye, I reading info

The only old Arowanas I see are in public Aquariums of thousands of gallons. Keeping them in home tanks cuts the lifespan on them. They also die from suicidal efforts in home aquariums. Somebody out there has an old home aquarium Arowana..but I've never met the guy. Five years seems to be the average. Now,thats O. bicirrhosum. Five years might also be the age they are ready to spawn. So,just a warning to keepers.
They can live healthy..eating beefheart mixes, freshwater smelts, other cuts of fish, and shrimp. They wont hesitate to eat mice you catch like they are fed it all their life!
But...they get tired of confinement in home aquariums. Something always seems to happen to them long before they reach a full lifespan.
