i have algae in my aquarium on my rocks and sometimes it gets on the glass. it is moss like i guess you could say it looks kinda fury. i dont leave the light on but about 8 hours a day so its not that because i used to leave it on for about 10 - 12 hours and there was no algae. i was wondering would i should do to try to get rid of it or is it normal. i have seen that they sell algae remover should i use that or does it have bad side effects. i have seen that there is an all organic algae remover would that be better?

Hi. Algae needs light and food. If you have the light under control, then you should check for nitrAtes in the water. If you have more than 10-20ppm nitrAtes in the water, then this is going to help the algae grow. Try feeding a little less also, this should help over time.

Getting rid of Algae is quite a complex matter, with varying factors contributing to the woes of the average aquarist. It can ruin a beautiful tank in no time at all. Check out the planted section of the forum and pose your question there, but be prepared for some techie answers to do with photo-periods, phosphates etc, etc. All are relevent and a fine balance must be achieved if you wish to have the tank you have visualised in your minds eye.
