there is absolutley no need to be so abrupt
do you honestly think that producing such a negative
comment will help strenghthen your suggestions or ideas?
for the most part, human nature causes us to become defensive
in such a situation where we feel we are being attacted on a personal level
therefore saying you are "disgusted" with someones possible idea in this sort of dilema, is IMO like telling them you are disgusted with them

simply put,
this is a very difficult situation
i myself had a dog that had a terrible chewing problem
and a wanker of a father to be blunt, that had the same idea
its a dog, not a person, if its costing him more than he paid for the dog
in damages, then its his right to shoot the damn thing if he sees fit
most of what he said was a load of crap, but in the end i'm sure he would have put her down if given the chance
my dog chewed until she was 1 year old
she was a samoyed lab X
she chewed through the lathing on the side of out house (criss crossed wood siding), 4 barbeque covers, 4 bikes (pedals seats and handle bars to nothing), she tore up rags, clothing, 3 dog beds, 2 benches, 1 chair, 2 patio umbrellas, gardening tools,
trust me she made thousands of dollars of damage
we got to the point that my dad wanted her dead
he does not make alot of money and she seemed to be eating it faster then he could produce it

she had tons of toys, love, and for the first year another dog (til it died of old age)
but as a samoyed she was a demanding breed
it took months of hard work and dedication,
you have to constantly have someone watching and correcting
walk them daily, and even when you think they have had enough attention,
watch them from a window and be ready to pounce out
and say "NO!" before the damage it done,
you have to baby proof as much of your house, and property as possible
much like your situation, we had to do things without proffessional aid
the biggest thing that helped us was time and maturity of the dog
also,
be persistant
the dog should be fed, walked, trained and sent to bed at the same hours every day
routine seems to help alot
and challenging them aswell
make a game out of basic obedience
its stimulating and aids in bonding the dog with the owners and visa versa
include lots of treats, and possitive rewards
but instead of negative reactions from undesirable responses, simply end the game and walk away
you are telling them "if you won't play right, i won't play at all"
yelling, or spanking then continuing the game says you are still
going to play even when they are bad

there is no quick fix or simple solution,
whatever you do don't give up, just try harder
in the end the extra attention and care will have made you a beautiful and obedient dog
its worth every minute
i promise you

Well I'm glad someone understands. :) Thank you PK.

"from reading alot of your previous posts regarding dogs it seems as though you may well have a liking to attention seeking!"

I just realised that was there. I'll be sure to not ask for help on anything in this part of the forum in that case, cause all I'm doing is 'seeking attention'.

But anyway, PK, yeah, I'm thinking about going on a buying spree with those chewy things, cause I bought them each one, and blue devoured them both by yesterday.

And they already have started a fight over the things. :/ Heck, they fight over water. -_-

So I'll go try and buy them enough that they won't need to fight over them.

Please, point out where I said that I DON'T use it.

Like I said, I'll say it again, my dad threatens to put him down. PUT HIM DOWN. WORD FOR WORD.

Do you want me to alter what my dad says in some other way of saying 'put down' cause thats what he says and thats what I'm telling you.

Euthenize? Is that better? Same thing as put down. I don't know what the heck you want me to say.

"but I will if this continues."

If what continues? Seriously, theres something wrong if you think this is some kind of arguement so bad it needs to be closed down, cause really, there isn't much debate here at all. Definetly not so bad that it would need to be closed.

mmm some people are over reacting a bit here - and Steppy it's not you so don't worry :)

You've come for advice - you have been given advice - and you have also taken some of that advice on board.

That's all that matters - you really don't have to defend anything you have said :) or relaying anything your dad said to you.

You are doing the best you can under the circumstances and that's really all that counts

True. :p

But I can't help but to defend myself when I feel a tad insulted. Arguements left unsettled bother me a bit.

And I've gotta make another comment on the attention seeking thing..

This topic is about asking for help on a dogs chewing problem. About the dog, not me. How am I seeking attention?

Another one I made-
"guinea pig personality question
how do they act towards new pigs?"
I don't see how I'm attention seeking still...

"Can pets cause sicknesses in people??
other than the obvious allergies?"
Thats something I seriously wanted to know, so whats the problem?

"Does anybody have training tips?
for complete and total moronic dogs?"
Ah, I remember that. When I first got blue. I don't know squat about training dogs of coarse, so I asked.

"new puppy!
australian shepherd/german shepherd mix"
Who doesn't like showing their new dog off?

"sadie is all better :D
my doggie ain't gettin put down!"
Thought I'd let everyone know cause it ain't nice leavin people in the dark. :p

EDIT- Missed your post. Hehe.

Yeah, I was upset right then. My parents kept talking about how they might have to put her down if she doesn't get better. So?
