how often should your replace the bulbs in T5 lights? and how often in T8?

not 100% sure on this, but i think it's 12-18 months for T8 and more like 3 years for T5.Replacement bulbs aren't too pricey as long as you don't buy 'aquarium' branded ones

Depends on use but the active elements coating the inside of the tube will be broken down in time so the light may 'light' but the specific colours emitted will fade.

Same as the paint on your car fade's in the sun.
