I was wondering what is the optimal amount to feed your fish?

I have a tank with the following fish

- Danios
- Rummynoses
- White Clouds
- Yoyo Loaches
- Bronze & Sterbai Corydoras

At the moment, I feed them 2-3 times a day, with a balanced mixture of the following food:

tropical flakes, crushed pellets, sinking granules, sinking and algae wafers (the Hikari ones), frozen bloodworms, frozen brine shrimp and cucumber a few times a week.

Each time I feed them, the flakes, pellets and granules are always gone within 20-30 seconds, the bloodworms and brine shrimp doesn't last more than a minute and the wafers are usually consumed by the bottom feeders within 15 minutes.

Am I feeding them too much? I understand that it is pretty hard to starve fish as they can go without food for a few days in a healthy established tank, but I want to know how much feeding is optimal if I want them to grow healthily.

They seem to be happy during feeding time and spend most of the day looking for food, they always seem hungry so I guess I'm not overfeeding them.

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Cheers :)

It all comes down to how many fish you have. Some fish may eat more than others as some are just gluttons. If you're fish seem happy enough at the moment i'd stick with what your doing. If it seems like you're feeding too much (only you can be the judge, its fairly obvious whats too little, and whats too much) cut down, and visa versa.

I have similiar fish to you (or have had) apart from the White Clouds. I've never fed them more than once a day, 5 - 6 days a week. Only enough food to be gone in a minute but algae wafers take a bit longer due to their thickness.

it's really hard to tell without seeing the actual amount of food you put in, like you can say a small pinch, but thats a different size for everyone depending how big they're hands are!

i feed every other day, was a little concerened they weren't getting enough so upped it a bit a month or so ago and now i've got a snail problem so i reckon i was about right before cos the snails would have multiplied cos of the excess food in the tank.

as Luke e said.... if your fish are looking healthy and happy you've probably got it about right. if it aint broke don't fix it!

i feed 3 times a day 6 days a week.

flakes every day
pellets every day
frozen bloodworm/live bloodworm every other day
fish treats/stick on treats every other day

and i chuck in random stuff every now and then such as peas etc. still experimenting with that.

turns out my fish dont like macdonalds!! KIDDING!!!
