i will be cycling my two 15 gal tanks using plants and a shared magnum 350 filter.
i've read that it should be a min of 1 plant per gal but whoa that's a lotta plants - i'd be afarid i'd never see my guys if i did that.
if i'm only keeping 3 fish in each of the tanks (they're divided betta houses) would that mean that i wouldn't need as much of a bacterial colony? and therefore need less plants for it to work? (is there any correlation between the number of plants and the number of fish?)
i'm sure this all depends on the type of plants being used- but i'm simply looking for a rough idea.

Heard of fishless cycling, using ammonia.

Heard of cycling with fish, their waste producing ammonia.

Sorry never heard of cyclilng with plants, I know that when they die and rot it produces ammonia, i assume however not enough to cycle a tank though and how does it work then with live plants? :dunno:

Have I missed something in my understanding of the nitrogen cycle. :-(

EDIT - Ok skip this post just read your other post "cycling using plants" I will read your link and get a better understanding .
