:D hello all, im new here! and need some help! :/ im going to by a 'aqua 40' tank... and i was wondering how many fish i could keep in it  im thinking of gettin glowlight tetras and danios and small fish like that. so i was wondering how many fish i could roughly keep the 40 litre tank??? thanks!

I make it around the 10g mark, so no danios. A school of, perhaps, 6 glowlight tetras and a honey gourami would be nice if you planted it up.

o thanks, :D i was on this other forum and no1 answered me! cheers! yh ill get a shoal of glowlights and a honey gouriami i think! i can see it planted up now!

do u think a dwarf gouriami could be kept on its own it that tank with the shaol of glowlight tetras?

Hi,

Either a single dwarf or honey would be fine with a school of tetras. As a general guide, aim to have an inch of adult size fish per gallon of water (this guide applies to fish growing less that 3 inches) this way you won't overstock.

Emma :)

cheers emma! coz i like the dwarf gouriamis! :D :D :D

if i had 4 glowlight tetras and 4 neon tetras, would they school together and be happy like that, or do they have to b in 5/6 of there own kind?

Tetras like to be in groups of 6+ of their own kind. There are other small fish such as cherry barbs which can be kept in trios of a male and 2 females, or livebearers such as platies or guppies can be kept in smaller groups. In a 10 gallon if you get livebearers stick to a same sex group as they breed like rabbits.

Emma :)

lol, thanks! yh ill get about 6 glowlight tetras and 3 guppys - (all females?) :D that should look nice in a well planted tank with a rock formation :)

are cherry babrbs peaceful? coz i no tiger barbs rnt :S

would it b allrite to keep the following: 6 glowlight tetras, 3 cherry barbs, 2 panda corydoras?

Yes, without the cories.
y with out corys, i was told i cud keep 9-11 fish in it?

i need an algae eater! to keep the bottom clean dont i
You could keep 9-11 fish if they are all tiny - less than one inch adult size. Glowlights & cherry barbs get bigger and Panda cories are quite delicate so the tank needs to wait a few months beore you get any. Corys don't eat algae.
For a tank this small algae eating shrimp or nerite snails are good choices. The only algae eating fish small enough need keeping in groups & would take up a third of your fish capacity.
The tank can hold about 7 glowlight sized fish.

so if i kept 6 glowlights, 3 other really small fish and an algae eater wud i b ok with that? what kig of shrimp?

Hi,

Do you want an algae eater because you want something to eat the algae ect or because they look nice and you love them?

I only ask because as mentioned above small ones like to be kept in groups and you are pushed for space. If it is just to keep the algae down then regular water changes and a good scraper will do just as good a job.

I have 3 amano shrimp and while they do eat some of the algae and rubbish for the floor it is not that much and I keep them cos they add character to my tank.
