I'm starting a new Eclipse Explorer 2 gallon tank, how many Zebra Danios can I safely keep in this tank?

Only 2 probably - but i think that they like to schoal in 4 or 6's.

Have you thought about a Male Betta Splendens (Siamese Fighting Fish)?

They come in beautifull colours, and are very happy on their own (you can only keep one male per tank) in a small tank.

Neil.

I agree....danios probably will not work in a 2 gallon.....for the reasons Neil said......and the fact that you just probably won't be satisfied with only two and they will not be happy....maybe either think about a bigger tank, or just go with a betta. Also a great fish!

Betta are definitely beauties. If you would like a little couple you get a male and female guppy. You can find some pretty males but nothing in light of the betta. just a thought. hope whatever you choose works.

One thing to note about guppies: if you get a male and a female you'll soon have lots of little guppies. ;) This could very quickly become a problem in a small tank like that. Maybe two males in that case?

Oh, and I agree with most replies; a betta would be a good choice.

I just bought my girlfriend the same exact tank, a 2 gallon Eclipse Explorer. Do not follow the suggestion that comes with the tank. 10 guppies will not fit in a 2 gallon tank. Who ever came up with their suggestions didn't know anything about fishkeeping. I think a betta would be fine in the tank or a couple guppies. Danios are schooling fish and would require three or more and wouldn't look that good unless they were able to school. Thats why I suggested something brighter that doesn't need to school.

A betta is the best thing for it. Zebras need lots of room to swim in to prevent asphyxiation, and they like to live in big groups.

White clouds also like to have more room to swim. You could keep them in that size, but I don't think they'd be very happy
