seeing as I live about an hour and a half from a good fish store, what is the best way for fish to travel from a store? and how long will be safe for them?? I always worry about this so I have had to buy from my LFS..

They will be fine in the bag for an hour and a half provided the lfs bag them decently and your cars not too cold, no problem at all :good:.

As long as they are bagged 1/3 water 2/3 air they will be fine.

Bring a cooler to transport to keep them warm. If you plan on bringing home one bag that isn't too large wear a largish flannel shirt. Tuck the bag into the shirt for the ride home, body heat will keep them happy.

When you are an hour and a half from home, make sure the fish shop knows that so they can package them properly. When I go to a club auction, the fish arrive at 8 or 9 AM and don't get to my house until 9 at night. The fish are fine because they are packaged with the long time in mind and have much more air in the bag than water. They stay warm by being indoors and then traveling in a heated closed vehicle. They spend most of the time in the auction location closed up with bags of other fish in an insulated foam box.

Ive had fish bagged for 12 hours before... as long as they get a few air changes, and are kept to temp they are fine, BUT - they will need aclimatising VERY slowly at the other end.
On this occasion I placed the bags in a "cool box" and added a little warm water OUTSIDE the bags every couple of hours.

Lets face it, fish get posted world wide, and dont recieve this attention ! so a few hours should be nothing to worry about !
