How Do You Dis-Infect Live Plants?

ok, this might sound really stupid, but there has been an outbreak of something in my betta tank, that has wiped out most of my bettas, for those of you who dont know.

I have spent loads of £££ on this tank, so i wont be able to buy new plants, is there anyway i can dis-infect them? They are live, not plastic or silk.

The tank will not be used again till the new year, but i dont know what i will keep then, maybe a sorority, but thats thinking ahead too fast. :OMG:

Any Advice?

there shouldn't be any need to disinfect plants, bleaching them won't do them any good at all. Are you sure it was the plants? no other factors such as dodgy tap water if they have flushed the pipes?

A quick rinse in water should be sufficient.

There was a disease in the tank so i didnt want any trace of the disease on the plants. I chucked the plants away in the end. Will have to buy some more when the tank is running again.

t says on the bottle you can use waterlife myxazin to sterlise nets - so it should work on plants too I would have thought

The simplest and most-straightforward solution is a quarantine tank. Almost all fish infections have to have fish available to survive. If you leave the plants in a tank with no fish for a month, there won't be anything left alive to attack fish again.

Were you able to identify what exactly killed your fish? If it was something like ich, ich has to have fish available to parasatize, if fish aren't available to latch on to, they die. Most other fish diseases are similar.

I have chucked the plants away now, i didn't want to risk it.

A few illnesses have been thrown in the air; TB, Columanaris, fungal infection, stress.

The most likely one is Columanaris because the symptoms of my bettas matched with others whos betta went throught the same thing.

its a shame.
