The best thing to do with Aponogetons is to plant them in pots. When the time comes for dormancy, (the plant will decide this generally, the leave start to disappear), take the pot out and leave it somewhere cool dark, and dry, don't let it dry out completely, but it doesn't want to be wet.
I wish you all the luck with it. A. madagascariensis is becoming threatened in nature, and is so difficult to keep and overwinter, I've stopped trying.
The couple of times I've had them, they flowered quite freely, but the seeds never seemed to grow. They are obviously self fertile, because the seed is set, but I wonder if they produce duff seeds when self pollinated? Don't know.
