So I went on vacation for about three weeks, when I left I had a tank full of bushy hornwort. While I was gone the temps in my tank spiked to nearly 85 and all of my hornwort pretty much melted. I lost a few fish too, which I think was because of the heat and all of the plant debris clogging up my intake.
So my question, has anyone else had issues with heat and plants? Is that what caused my plants to plants to die or do I just suck at plant keeping? :/

Yeah, hornwort does really well in cooler temps. I find it does better in my cooler shrimp tanks than it does in my warmer community tank. 85 is pretty warm, yikes!

My fish do okay in the heat, but I've taken out all of my heaters and I keep the lights out most of the day to battle the heat. My plants are just not doing well.

Yeah, the lack of lighting is good to keep the heat down but then the plants don't get enough light so that is most definitely a drawback.

My AC went out last night and my tanks got up to 86 degrees! It's fixed now, but hopefully all the fish are alright.

My house doesn't have AC, so whatever temp it is outside it hits my tank. Kinda scary when your thermometer hits 90 degrees

If it gets really high, you can always freeze some water in a plastic bottle and float it in the tank.
