I'm now 2 weeks into this hobby and am thouroughly enjoying it. However, I would like to replace my existing plastic hood with a new one and have some nice lighting for it. I have a 1.2m x 40cm x 50cm tank. I know this probably sounds like a thick question but here goes anyway. How do lighting units/ltubes or whatever is required fit to a plastic hood. Does the hood come with fixing points and hence, specific lights and fixtures need to be bought that will fit that particular lid. Or...when you buy a hood does it come with all the lighting stuff pre installed. Or....do I have to buy special glues or drill holes or something to attach lights. My last question is what is needed to have everything I need to fit lighting. Is it 1) the tubes + 2) the holder they fit into and 3) a seperate starter outside the tank. Or am I completely wrong. Help I'm confused?

Thanks,
Phil

Phil,

There are members all over this forum that do all sorts of stuff with lights. I've seen threads where they are designing new ones, repairing old ones, switching parts, discussing new ones to buy, lots of stuff.

You might want to give the hardware section a try but don't give up, there should be some members that can give you some comments that will be helpful. This is the kind of question that might benefit if you put your location in your profile as of course there are big differences in both the electricals themselves and in the customs of using electricals in different countries.

Thanks for the response. I'll search around the forum and see what I find. By the way. I'm living in Reading in the UK.
