Real basic question

What can you do when you go away for a week or two and there is nobody you can count on to call round and feed your fish?

Is there anything available that releases small quantities of food over time

Alternatively, how long can you leave a small (25 gallon) community tank without feeding the fish?

Thanks

ok first off
starting the week before you go away
reduce the amount you normally feed to half
at the same time feed every other day.

the day you leave
perform an 50-75% water change

the day you return
perform a 50 to 75% water change
do not feed!

day after return
feed half the amount you normally feed
for the next week( still every other day) gradually
build up to regular feeds.

week after your return
all should be back to normal.

Alternatively you could try one of these Auto Fish Feeder

I don't know how good they are. Maybe somebody who has used one can offer an opinion!

Good luck!

Before deciding to just leave the fish for two weeks keep these two things in mind:

Growing fish have a higher metabolism. The younger they are, the less time they can go without food. Adult fish can certainly manage two weeks.

Cooler water slows down the metabolism. Make of it what you will.
