hi peeps

I have a wee common plec, not going to be a permanant fixture, but hes there for the time being and he seems to produce a hell of a lotta waste... now i was wondering is there anything I can add to the tank that will help with all this poo, at the moment I keep wanting to do a syphon everyday and I dare say that, that isnt going to be that good for the tank....

I read that malasian snails feed on fish poo... but on another site....this fact was "poo pooed" hehehehehe....

does anyone have any ideas???

Plecos poop a ton, I have two plecos and they both decorate the tank with long strands of poop. Plecos do need a big tank, what size is your in? Extra filtration will help, weekly water changes/cleaning should be done but other then that don't worry about it, it's what plecos are known for, LOL.

i have white stones so it sort of... stands out a miles. is there anything that will break it down or "eat" it?? at present in doing a water change on wed and sun but this isn't good for the tank... well I guess its not good for the tank.... im doing such frequent water changes as the tank had whitespot and I had already lost 4 fish to it... but at the rate the plec is going I might have to keep it up...

Yeh Ive noticed this problem too!

I recently added a plec to my tank to combat the algee levels but he is counter acting on this with the amount he poops!! :/

I also have white stones and its not very attractive seeing his waste everywhere.

He's lucky he is such a fun fish to watch or he would be outta there! :lol:

Plec poop is good... It means he is eating plenty and content... don't worry about it - your weekly water change should keep it under control...

my Bristlenose is a real pig... and sh*ts like one too...

Build one of these, toss it in the bottom.

Oh well if poop levels show how happy your plec is! then mine is definaltly have hapy fishy!

Can you explain what that is (pic aobe) and what it does?

...its a home smoothie kit...

...no idea really...

Powerhead, piece of tubing, 1 liter bottle with the bottom cut out. Stuff foam, floss, whatever you want to use for media in the bottle. Toss it on the bottom, the curent keeps the debris from settling, the media picks it up.

Under gravel jets are similar, I build them from junk laying around the fishroom. Here's another one with just foam;

Here's the parts you need;
