Hi, the name's Lisette. I'm from New York City. I've had a betta fish named Emmett for a little over 2 years. Decided I wanted to get deeper into the hobby but realized after doing some research I've made some rookie mistakes and am here now for help and advice.

Currently have an overcrowded 10 gallon tank.

There are 4 males guppies.
2 baby bala sharks
And one highfin pleco.
Tank has a filter and a heater.
How long can I keep this set up until I absolutely have to upgrade? After I purchase the larger tank who can stay in the 10 gallon?

Thanks a million!

Hello Lisette,

to TFF! Hope you enjoy it here.

You want to upgrade that yesterday.

What size tank are you thinking of upgrading to?

The bala sharks get over a foot and should be kept in groups of 6+. Their minimum recommended tank length is 8ft, some would even say 12ft, due to their high activity levels and size.
The pleco gets very big and believe you want a 75g+ tank for it.

I recommend bringing them back to your LFS asap.

The guppies can stay in the 10g

Sorry for being a bit negative!

Welcome to the forum, and good on you for asking the question. You will get some sound advice on here.
Have you any pictures of your tank?

Welcome! I agree with Ninj, you should definitely find a new home for the bala sharks. Do you have any plans to upgrade? If not, I would re home the pleco as well.
