Just to introduce myself, I started looking at this forum a few week ago and it's been very, very useful; you experienced folks do an invaluable job.
I have a 60 gallon aquarium coffee table with 24 fish. Unfortunately although I'd have liked to do a fishless cycle the fish abruptly landed in my lap from a friend, who's a submariner. I'd said I might be interested in his fish at some point months ago, before being in position to have a tank and to be honest, had forgotton about it. No sooner had I received my tank, bought some substrate/decor, and started reading/planning what to do next than I received a text from my friend saying he was going back to sea in 1 week, couldn't wait any longer and, to quote: "My fish then, what do you reckon? Else toilet. No pressure." So here I am with my lovely (if not selected by personal choice) little friends!
The fish aren't in great nick, they'd been in a very small aquarium and there are a few chewed fins etc. On the plus side, 3 weeks on I've only had one casualty (a molly, very early on) and the rest are looking good despite the nitrite levels recently becoming rather a battle. It's wonderful to watch them colour up, I can't believe the change in the pearl gouramis (grey to really shimmery/brightly spotted); I'm sure a result of the change from flake food to frozen daphnia/larvae + cooked courgette/peas, goes down a treat with them!
Anyway, I'll quit wittering on; probably won't post much but will keep reading people's entries with great enthusiasm
Bye for now,
Pips.
FISH LIST: 6 cardinal tetras, 3 bleeding heart tetras, 6 guppies (3 male/3 female), 2 pearl gouramis, 1 dwarf gourami, 2 orange platies, 2 dalmation mollies, 1 red-tailed shark, 1 bullnosed plec.
