Hi everyone. I just joined about 15 minutes ago. I've been a lurker for a couple of days, and I very much like what I've seen so far. I do not have any fish at the moment, but I am cycling a 37 gallon cube aquarium that I got from a friend who (sadly) lost interest in the hobby. I have a 2 gallon mini bowfront running as well, with some guppies and a cory cat, which is doing well. Now, a little about me: I am 55 years old, married to a wonderful guy named Doug, drive a school bus, and live out in the country on a 1/2 acre of property in Mayer, AZ. I have lots of other pets: 5 cats (all rescues but 1), 2 dogs, a leuscistic Texas rat snake, and a mini horse. I can't wait for my tanks to finish cycling (8 weeks on), so I can get a betta sorority started in the big one. From my username, you can guess my favorite betta variety. I hope to have exclusively that color, but we'll see. They're all beautiful. I have had success breeding bettas in the 1970s, and looking forward to that again. I'm intersted in working with halfmoons and double tail types. I hope to make some new friends here, and hope this intro isn't too long. Have a great day.

Weolcome to the forum!

Congratualtions on already knowing about the cycling process - that's a great thing to hear from a new person in the hobby.

As for the 2 gallon - I'm not sure that is big enough for the fish you have. Are you planning to move them on to the 37g once it has cycled?

i know its mean but i like to go fishing but i still keeping fishz is this wrong i want as many opinions as i can get

i don't go fishing for one reason only...i am actually a bit scared of fish!! that is why i got my first tank...to help combat this fear!! i am happy to get my hands in the tanks with them now but couldn't deal with them flapping about on the end of a line!! my dad and uncle both do a lot of fishing, have both kept fish and like to admire my tanks. imo fishing and fishkeeping are 2 different hobbies and there is nothing wrong with being interested in both!!

L :good:

lol. thats a great idea!!! i could get someone else to grab it for me!!! :hyper: i'm like you schotty...only like little fish!!

Thank you all for your kind words. Zoddy- I only have 3 fish in there 2 guppies and the baby cory. Yes, they will be moved soon, as they are getting too big. And fishkeeping has changed so much since the 1970s. Glad to see new species as well as old friends. And new ways of doing things. I'm eager to learn. And about the tank cycling; that was common back then too.

mustardgasbetta, welcome to the forum from another old school fish keeper(37 YRS),yes its a good read on the forum with lots of new tips and hints.

Good morning and welcome! :good: It is nice to see someone come back to the hobby. I'm 47years old and have had an aquariums since I was 5 years old. Tank cycling has changed alittle over the years. I remember "cycling" when I was little. We just didn't call it that and we always used fish for cycling. The object was to be able to keep the fish we were using alive through the process. Now fishless cycling has made the use of fish to cycle obsolete. Glad to hear you are going to transfer those fish to a bigger tank. You might want to pick up a few more cories(atleast 5). They like to be in a group.

:hi: to the forums! I'm glad that you found this site because it is one of the best you'll ever find. If you need help go to the beginners section of the forums. Also make sure to check out this link. It will show you how to cycle your tank the best and fastest way possible, fishless. I hope that you feel welcomed. Also don't forget to ask alot of questions, after all that's what we're here for.

For the method I'm doing the add and wait, because I feel it is the best method for me.
