hi :) does anyone know any *aggressive* fish i can keep in a 10 gallon? maybe by itself or with a couple others? i know it should be relatively small, but does anyone have any suggestions? im thinking of getting my brother some fish with my extra 10 gallon fw tank i have..any suggestions would be great ;)

Small african cichlids like Malawi Gold and pseudotropheus zebra could work, I've had 3-4 of them in a 10 gallon. They were constantly chasing each other around, it was fun to watch. :p

Nope. I kept them in there for several months and they were very happy. :D Before I had only 2 of them in a 5 gallon for quarantine for 2 weeks and it was ok too, so...

Once again that was way to small, how do you know they were happy?

Them chasing each other aint "cool" as you put it. It was a sign that there was not enough space.

Does not mean that the fish are mean  You put any fish in a tank to small they can end up chasing each other around

Uhhh tons of people keep large cichlids in tanks purely for the fun of seeing their personalities it work. Cichlids are aggressive fish, they are going to chase each other whether you like it or not. No, 10 gallons is not too small for 3 3-4 inch fish, it is perfectly fine. Besides I gave them away and they are in a bigger tank now. They were all perfectly healthy active and happy. Yes, happy. there was the occasional nip and scuffle over food or territory, but other than that it was fine. Please don't talk like I don't know what I'm doing, believe me I am a very competent fishkeeper and would never keep my fish under subpar conditions.

If you really thought that you would not make a point of saying you gave them away and "THEY ARE IN A BIGGER TANK NOW" Why would you make that statement unless you knew that 10 gallon was not sufficient.

People keep these fish for thier personalities, with that statement I agree, but not in 10 gallon tanks. I dont know who you know, but I dont know any, and I have not seen any of these people in this forum

A 10g is too small for zebra danios, who are 2-3 inches long. What more for cichlids and other territorial fish?

P.T.

Thank you Phantom, I thought I was the only one reading this.

Yes I know people don't keep large cichlids in 10 gallon tanks, I never said they do. When I bought these small malawi cichlids at the LFS the tank was labelled "assorted small african cichlids". When asked what size my tank was, I replied 10 gallons and he said it was fine. My ten gallon was well filtrated, well aerated, and very well maintained and I never had any problems during the 3 months I had my cichlids. Danios are superactive by the way, far more than these fish, and they like open water as opposed to caves (which by the way I had so they could establish their own territories), so it is natural that a school of danios will not comfortably fit in a 10 gallon. But my 3 malawi cichlids did, and what's done is done so I would appreciate if you would stop flaming me about it.
