ok came home from college today only to find my crab legs and white part of the body on the sand bed.. he dead or is he molting? i cant see the shel either only reason im asking this is because i do get lots of clicking at night, maybe upto 6 times in the speed of a clock ticking, maybe bit faster but could it be mantis also?

And my sand is starting to turn browny in places wot that mean?

The clicking is probably a mantis shrimp. Thats is bad.

They can strike at the speed of a bullet I think, and can split your finger, as well as killing everything in your tank and reducing your LR to rubble. Someone else should tell you how to get rid of it :good:

reducing your LR to rubble

I wouldn't go as far as saying it'll break up your live rock lol.

1.Most likely your hermit crab was molting.

2. It's probably a mantis or even a pistol shrimp.

3. Leave the lights of for an hour or two, then shine a flash light in it. If you see either of the two get them out with a net. And please, don't use your hands! I have heard a story of a guy reaching in to pull out a mantis, thankfully he didn't catch it!

If all else fails buy a trap.

well i found the critter re molding i think as his shell was intact fully, but tbh thoughi hear these clicksbut i havent lost any fish or inverts yet i cnt find either ill have a look tonight but not sure.

Atm though im really happy as my clarkii has decided to host in my large leather coral :D saves me buying a anenome and killing it slowly lol. but i wldnt.
Well about 100 litres is 9 months old and the rest is about 2 weeks nearly, but wld i pushed it like went? cld it be food like cyclops i feed?

No, it is probably not a mantis shrimp

Most (meaning the vast majority over 80%) of clicking in tanks is caused by loose equipment, a powerhead or a heater thats not properly held down. Then the other 20% is evenly split between pistol shrimp, Mantis shrimp and unidentified sources; Once in a while the noise is acctually coming from a fish.

molted i would say.
the clicking it most prob a powerhead or somthing.
sand turning borwn just shows that its maturing well.

just try moving around ye powerheads when u hear the clicking see it it stops/changes.
