:dunno: :dunno: I have a 10 gl tank. my tank has been up and running for about 5 months now and the water has a tint of yellow in it how do i fix this (the water has been much cleaner before) wat should i do I have tried a 25% water change and it didn;t work. could it be an algae build up? :dunno: :band:

Could be a algae bloom. If so the best thing to do is less light and maybe some easy care low light plants.

If you got wood in tank, that is tannis from the woods it will someday stop only thing to do is PWC's until it stops and clears.

no wood in my tank. Should i add some alage eatin fish like corydores or plecos
:dunno:

no

your tank is incredibly overstocked already, you should be taking fish out, not adding them. also corydoras don't eat algae. :)

what is a good algae eater for a 10 gallon?

clown loach
one otto?

and do mollies eat algae i heard they do

also if you had anything rocks etc that were on the ground they may have had dirt inside them i had this happen to me even after boiling it all seeped out over a few months

Hi asdf :)

Can you see algae or is it just the water that is colored? If it's the water, it could also have something to do with the food you are feeding them. Could your flake food contain a dye that is leaching into the water. If you are overfeeding, cut back and see if that helps.

One water change is seldom enough, so keep up doing good sized ones on a regular basis.

Hi _]im :)

Clown loaches grow way to large for your tank, but otos are small and very nice algae eating fish. They should be kept in groups though. Here's a link with information about them:

If you have more questions about them, please start a thread in the Catfish Cradle forum where the members there will be happy to answer. :D

should i add a small cory to clean eat the uneaten fish food(in the gravel) that is dyeing my tank or a otto to clean the algae?? OR BOTH :dunno: :dunno: :band:

:) PWC are partial water changes

If your tank is quite heavily stocked then the waste from the fish will turn the water yellow. This is perfectly normal, some people use carbon in the filter to remove it. Carbon must be replaced every 3-4 weeks depending on stocking levels of the tank.

By far the best way to remove staining in the water is to do slightly larger water changes....add live plants, they will use up nutrients in the water....feed more live and fresh food as opposed to flakes....DON'T feed too much,a fish's stomach is only the same size as it's eye, any food that hits the bottom will add to the problem. Your fish should finish the food before it hits the bottom :D

if there is uneaten food you are feeding too much. feed less and clean more. don't add any more fish, you are overstocked, and besides, cories and ottos both need to be kept in shoals.
