hi

its been a while that i have noticed that my fish "scratch" themselves against my tank ornaments. i didn't think much of it and left it in the back of my mind because im still new at fishkeeping. my one female guppy gave birth several weeks ago. I had the fry in one of those breeder tank things. the waste kept building up in there and there was no water circulation so i decided to buy a breedernet for better circulation. so I put it in yesterday. this morning i noticed one of my other guppies looked kinda odd. she had these white spots on her fins and body. i assume its whitespot. how far has it progressed if it is only on one fish. Can it be due to the net - adding stress? i did add a anti whitespot solution to the water that made the water blue.

will the whitspot spread and wipe out my tank?
strange enough i always thought that something like whitespot will never happen to me.

thanx. all of the sudden i feel like a bad fishkeeper. this do happen to you more experienced guys right?

Try another treatment. That's happen to me alot. What brand did you use? I have been keeping fish for 4 years.

it will wipe out the tank if not treated properly
try esha exit or waterlifes treatment :good:

hi

What treatment exactly are you using? Whitespot is always a risk when introducing any new fish, decor or equipment, and even the most experience fish keepers will have whitespot problems at some point. I would personaly use either interpets treatment for whitespot, or Waterlife's Protozin to treat it. I would avoid Methaline Blue, as all though it will cure whitespot, it is also very hard on your filter bactiria.

Whitespot can spread, so make sure you use your treatment to the letter, to avoid this happening. Also, sterilise your equipment, before using it with your tank again. Sterilise each time you do maintanance untill the white spot has cleard up. This stops you re-introducing too many aditional spores into the tank, at the end of treatment. Whitespot is always presant in aquarian water, but it only infects a fish if it can overcome the fishes immune system.
