Hi guys

Just after some regarding my tank below.

You can see the left side just has the big pot and some rocks. I really fancied started converting it to a planted tank - pretty basic nothing that required too much light etc.

I was going to start by growing a carpet of the dwarf hair grass, Ive seen it sold in little pots that i assume you remove and place the plant in your substrate.

Bearing in mind ive just got full on gravel that’s quite large sizes, how would i go about planting. Could I put some better planting substrate in say a plastic container put holes all over it for the roots and then bury that in the gravel?

Is this to go in your Malawi tank?

If you have gravel I wouldnt recommend hair grass but you could look at one of the regular grasses like Helenthium Tenelum, Lilaeopsis species or Littorella uniflora. They all come in the In-Vitro cups and are a more robust plant that will be able to push through gravel. You should add root tabs into the gravel for the plants too.
