Help With Black Lava Rock

Hello all,

I recently ordered some black lava rock for my tank. It was delivered this morning, rinsed thoroughly and added to the tank around 6 hours ago. Two out of the three rocks have developed a white "coating". Does anybody know what this is?

Is the coating just in the holes in the rock? Does the with stuff seem to be fuzzy?

No, it’s seems to be everywhere. Yes, it is fuzzy looking. If I just slightly touch it with my net, it comes away very easily from the rock.

Probably salts leeching out of the rocks so maybe a soak in a bucket and scrub until it stops appearing.

I agree with @Guppy10 ,soak it and see what happens. I picked up several black lave rocks and soaked them for a day but did not have this happen.

Thanks all. I have now removed the rocks and put into soak for 48 hours just to be on the safe side.

Sounds correct.

Soak it in hot water in a 5g bucket for 48 hours.

I agree, I used hot water too just in case there were any "bug"
