Hi

Hope someone can help. I purchased 6 wild gold tetra from maidenhead aquatics in solihull yesterday afternoon. I have noticed that 2 of the fish seem to have one white spot on their backs in the same place, although one is a larger fish and the spot seems larger. On closer inspection I'm not sure if some of the other ones(there are six in total)have clear spots in the same place-could this be something beginning to develop?

They are the only fish in a quarantine 21 litre tank, with plastic plants and gravel. They are behaving normally showing no other signs of illness.

Nitrite 0

Ammonia 0

Please help - Thanks very much

Ask in the right part of the forum, just to make sure it's not markings.

Any signs of flicking and rubbing, excess mucas, darting, erratic swimming, or laboured breathing.
Any redness to the spots.
Do the spots look raised.
Do the spots look like there filled with fluid.
Do the spots look flat.
Also check the spots to see if they move position on the fish.

Hi thanks very much for your reply.

On closer inspection it looks like it is where the little fin(that these type of fish have) above the tail - you cant see the fin because of the spot.It looks almost a bit wooly - could it be damage from where it was caught at the shop? There is no redness,it is raised, doesn't look fluid filled and haven't seen it move.
Have spoken to maidenhead & they have told me to treat for whitespot but i'm not convinced this is what it is. There are no signs of flicking, rubbing, excess mucas, darting, erratic swimming or laboured breathing. Worried about treating for something if its not the right diagnosis. Maidenhead have said they had the fish for 2 weeks with no problems.

Thanks for your help

Sorry to be thick but what other part of the forum should I be asking in.

Hold of treating for now.
If anymore tiny white spots appear I would then treat for whitespot.

Add some pimafix for now. As you can use pimafix anyway with whitespot meds.

Clear tiny bubbles on fish can also be a sign that fish are about to break out in whitespot.
