Whether to isolate pregnant females and/or fry just depends on your plans and desires, Ben. Beginners often don't realize that livebearers like swords can produce a lot of offspring on an ongoing basis. Finding new homes for them quickly enough before they create stocking problems for you can be a challenge. Having a certain percentage of the offspring be eaten by the larger fish in the tank is actually quite natural - its how these species retain sufficient protein retention on a population basis. Or, if you already have a store that has agreed to take them or some such arrangement then you might want to use plants, breeding cages or breeding tanks to collect offspring. WD
