Hi all,

I am new to all this so please help..... I have been running a fishless cycle for several weeks and have been showing zero readings of ammonia and nitrites for the last 5days. I am pretty sure my tank is cycled now, unless someone tells me otherwise. My question is I want to stock my tank with colourful/fast moving fish what are your stocking suggestions for a 125 litre tank with gravel?

thankyou

What level of ammonia have you been dosing to daily? 3ppm? 4ppm? 5ppm?

Are both ammonia and nitrite levels dropping to zero within 12 hours?

It depends...
Remember that fast fishes need more space...

My suggestion is Danio aequipinnatus... its nice colorful fish and easy to keeping by beginners :)

I would suggest some Xray tetra. I have two of them and they are very fast and playful, always out! I believe they like to be kept in something like 5+ but i havent got round to getting any more. Someone may like to confirm that?

Other than that, some loaches? I find them very interesting and I love them. My yoyo loach is always out.. whereas my polkadot loach comes out very rarely and hides away most of the time. But these are bottom feeders so if your gravel is sharp and not rounded (smooth) then they arent really suited for your tank as they will hurt themselves on the edges as they sift through the gravel. Would you consider swapping to sand before you add any fish....?

Welcome to our forum Popsy.
I am partial to rasbora hets as a good first fish.
ARobinson has asked a very important question though. How much ammonia have you been dosing to get your tank's filter cycled? If it is at least 2 ppm and the filter has been reducing that to zero in less than 12 hours without showing any nitrites, you can indeed place a small population of fish into your tank fairly safely. If you have never heard of using ammonia to cycle a tank, please let us know what you have been doing to prepare the filter for fish.
