A friend of mine has a tank with nitrates out of control.
It is a 10g tank that is down to having just a painted glass fish (big no no, yes we know), a leopard danio and a large apple snail.
The fish have been dying and the nitrates are the problem from what I can tell. It's very high (gaah! I can't remember the number but it was in the center of the unsafe range on the chart).
Anyway, I did a 50% water change and the amount went down slightly but not enough.
I would like suggestions on firstly how to get the nitrates under control and also what to add to this tank (plants, rocks, etc) to make the remaining fish happy.
Thanks. I plan to go pick up supplies VERY shortly so any help you can give would be greatly appreciated.
