I have a 150W Fluval Tronic which is just 2 weeks old. I am 2 weeks into a fishless cycle. Just for fun yesterday, I did a 10% water change - as a practice run for when I have fish

I switched everything off and after 10 minutes or so removed the heater and the filter for a clean

Having put everything back in place, my heater is no longer working

I did not drop or knock it in any way - is this just coincidence or is it possible that I did something to break it without realising it?

Thanks

I'm thinking that it might have gotten messed up due ot changes in temperature after you took it out of the tank...

Not to teach anyone to suck eggs but have you checked the fuse?

www :)

Did you switch the heater on while it was out of water??? this is a bad idea and can make it expload!!! (so i was told)

Check fuse?

If that don't help maybe it's faulty and needs replacing?

When you switch it on the bottom end of the heater should warm up, does it feel warm to touch?

Does it have a light on when first switch on???

My heater just konked out a while back and i always wanted to know why my tank stayed at a constant temp of 20'C while my heater was switched to 83f and was really lucky that i didn't lose any fish thank goodness!!

 silly me

Sounds like thermal shock.
You shouldn't take a heater out of water for half an hour after switching it off, as it will still be hot.
I have broken several heaters by doing this.

Some newer heaters are apparently immune to this.

I'm afraid you'll probably need to buy a new one.
