He is swimming on his side and his color is greyish white. I have thought he was dead several times. All the water is fine the ph is 7.0 can someone please tell me what to do he just started doing this. Around 10 am this morning.. I changed out 10 percent of the water last nite. I age my water three days before adding it to the tanks.

Unfortunately, many fish become pale when they are stressed or sick, so knowing exactly what is wrong can be difficult.

Possible things to look for are:
  • Is he scratching against any thing in the tank?
  • is there any white fuzzy stuff growing off of him
  • Is he bloated?
  • Is he eating?
  • Does he appear to be loosing weight?
  • What does it look like when he goes to the bathroom?
  • Any other physical signs of illness?

Sounds like swim bladder with grey whitish colour it can be bacterial or parasite, i would feed the fish if it's still eating on some shelled peas and daphnia, once swim bladder has progressed there is no cure, can you say how big the tank is, water stats in ammonia, nitrite, nitrate, and ph, how many fish and which type.

Thanks all for trying to help with the pleco but he just died a few minutes ago. I noticed his belly was bloated. Which I never noticed before...I never saw that pleco any until at nite when he was hungry. Now I feel so bad because I didnt know he was ill until it was to late. This is the reason why I want to give up the hobby.

thanks ttnjifttt it just breaks my heart to lose one fish. It makes me want to give up the hobby..

Sorry, R.I.P.

Don't give up!! I know it's really hard to lose a pet but it wasn't your fault.
