Yesterday I went to the fish shop to buy a betta and there was a bunch of females that all looked the same. I'd never seen them before and i thought that they where pretty cool so I got one. When I got home I did some research and at first I thought the lines where stress marks. Doing some more research I started to find more species of betta that looked like her, for example the betta picta and the bett falx. But I also found some betta splendeds that looked like her. I came to the conclusion that she was a 'wild type' betta, so she had not been bred to look fancy. Can someone please confirm this, i really want to know now :)

ohh ok cool, so does this mean i will be able to breed her with my male splendens then?

Yeah, don't see why not. You'll need to wait until she is fully grown and you'll need to condition her and everything.. :good:

yehh i wasn't going to do it until the long holidays so i can make sure nothing goes wrong, the long holidays are in about 15 weeks or something.

It looks like a Betta slendens female ,they are not bred to be fancy,it is only the male that has the fancy finnage.
Wow. Just wow. It's seems like you've never seen a female then. Just take a look at just a few of mine

BTW, you have a wild colored female Betta splendens

When she is ready to breed, she will develop a white spot on her vent.
Another incorrect post. Sigh, they always have the white spot INBETWEEN the ventral fins if they are female. There are better, more correct signs of judging if a female is ready for breeding.

I would not say another incorrect post, what i said was ,(the first photo looks like a shortfinned male)i did not say it was a S/F male,& as far as the other post,it was not incorrect to say it was a female, when you can see that is a female.

I was talking about the last portion of the sentence. Makes and females are in the same spawn. So even if you a trying to attain fancy, flashy colors on the makes you'll get a few females in the Shawn with that color.
