Just rescued a pleco from a 10 gallon tank with 10 cichlids and im starting to worry he stays in the back left cornero f my tank and he doesnt go far from that spot. I have tried those sinking algae tablet thingys and sliced cucumber even tried putting it in and leaving it all night but nothing.. i dont know if hes sick or if theres some trick i can try as far as i can tell the lady never gave him food just for him and theres not much algae in my tank i even moved a small piece of driftwood to that corner to try and get him on that at least... any ideas? Plus i dont know what kind he is. I think he is some sort of sailfin because when a cichlid gets close he throws his fins out and his top fin is tall and beautifully spotted. I was thinking possibly a spotted or a leopard pleco.. can someone tell me what it is and what i could feed it that may b too appealing to pass up?

It's a sailfin plec, or gibbiceps Pterygoplichthys gibbiceps. It should grow to around 18"/2'.

If he (or she!) hasn't been fed properly in the past, it may not recognise these things as food; keep in offering things, and he'll get the hang of it eventually. My plecs find tomato (an end slice, with no seeds), split and lightly cooked broccoli stalks and melon rinds (with a bit of the flesh left on) pretty irrisestable.

ok thank you so much i will probably try the tomato idea tonight. Im just so worried the tank he came from was disgusting! I also dont want him to starve. do you have any idea what kind of sailfin it is?
