Hello all,

Yesterday I decided to rescape my fry tank. I purchased a Betta fish an quite a few plants. Normally I keep malawi's so never really kept planted setups.
I changed the substrate for one that promotes plant growth but now need info on how to promote the growth.

I plan on keeping the tank lit for around 6 - 8 hours a day using the default light that came with the tank (an Arcadia arc 35L).

I'm also hoping to purchase some java moss to get the growing on the bogwood and substrate.

Do I need to dose anything to achieve all this or do I need to have a co2 system??? I don't have a clue.

Below is a picture of the setup. I really want the tank to fill out with the plants. (sorry I don't no names).

The plant in the back left corner is not aquatic. Neither is the plant at the front on the right. I can't quite make it out but the one at the front on the left looks like the same species so therefore will be non-aquatic as well.
What wattage is the bulb that came with the tank?
I would have a read of the Planted Aquariums Resource Center (PARC) section.

Get the non aquatic plants out before they break down and cause ammonia which will cause algae, get some true aquatic plants, nothing that needs high light and with just some fish you won't need to dose anything. Get plants such as Anubias, Java Fern, Hairgrass, Swords, Mosses and Crypts, they're all plants that be fine in low light with no need for dosing CO2 or ferts.

Thanks for the response. I've removed those plants, quite suprised Maidenhead aquatics sold them to me if they are not infact aquatic plants. I'll look on ebay now and purchase some of what you mentioned :good:

Which of those you mentioned are fast growing?

None really as lower light plants are slower growers generally, my journal in the journal section is called pogostemon pastures and has all slow growing plants in, have a look, if you have patience then you can get a really nice tank, I'm moving everything in there into an arc 35 soon. I dose liquid carbon and ferts in it but only really for the carpet plant as it needs it.
