Dear TFF

I have kept fish many years ago and decided recently to start again so I dug out my Roma 125, Fluval 205, heater, air pump and stone. Got 20kgs of black sand and a few plants and tablet fertiliser...

I waited until things settled then added about 7mml of amonia this morning and I have a testing kit coming in the post.

My questions is about salt - I used to use it when I change the water with the conditioner but reading here its mainly used for sickly fish - I do have some and could add to the tank but I am confused???

I plan to keep Cherry Barbs, and maybe Danios and in a few months ottos - I recall you can have an 1" of fish per gallon therefore about 27 but lets say 24" - OK, cherys get to about 2" so wasing thing of 8 (3 males and 5 females) the ottos are about 1" so 5 of these. That makes 21" - what are peoples thoughts about this - I want a community tank as I have breed Tiger Barbs and Cichlid Convicts before, obviously at different times.

Neil - Will post a piccy soon

Salt is only realy used in the freshwater tank as a medication, so leave it out.

stocking sounds all good to me :)
and i also had salt and used to add it to my tank every now and then, now i no longer do i found out that it is mainly used for medication purposes, on the salt package it said that it enhance colour and health of fish which is the reason i used it but your better off not using any unless you really have to :)
