There's a nice fish tank at my father's house, and I'm interested in possibly learning how to keep one myself since I don't visit much anymore! I especially love plecos! Cute.

OP's already gotten a lot of talk about fish from me since I got into fishkeeping... He's been talked half to death but now he's joining the dark sideIt’s snowing here! In London!. Grumble grumble
Oh and hello and welcome to the OP. It’s good here. Best place for beginners on the internet actually.
Rule 1: Don’t believe anything anyone who stands to make money out of you says regarding fishkeeping. They may be right but it’s not worth the risk initially. This lot are ok. Theyre so busy trying to make ends meet in their day jobs theyve not got the time to attempt scamming a stranger on the internet.
Rule 2: Read up about cycling your tank.
Rule 3: Read up about cycling your tank again. No offence but Stephen Hawkins struggled with it.
Rule 4: Find out your water hardness and PH from your water suppliers website or get it tested.
Rule 5: Research the fish you like on seriouslyfish.com. It’s a science based site that’ll tell you which fish suit your tap water and the temps they require, tank size, tank mates, food etc etc.
Rule6: Run your fish choices past this lot before buying as a lot of fishes who suit the stuff in rule 5 will fight if kept together.
Rule 7:Have fun.
Theres other rules but I’ve not got time for them as one of your polar bears is smashing our wheelie bins up. Snow! In London! At Easter! What’s going on!
