Hey everyone. Im new to all of this aquarium stuff and looking for advice. I have a 55 gallon freshwater tank with an oscar, jack Dempsey, and two pelvis. I cycled the tank for about two week and they were doing fine until I bought a catfish from terrys aquarium. My tank got infested with ich. I've raised the temp to 82, bought aquarium salt, and bought rid ich by kordon. It seems to be that there doing ok but I wanted advice on how to treat and do water changes during this situation?

All the salt does is force the ich off the fish, you have to wait until they go through a lifecycle of about a week to die of starvation. You should continue to do water changes as per normal, just make sure the new water is salted to the same ratio as the water in the tank :)

Once a couple of weeks have passed, you can gradually decrease the salt in the tank until you are back to normal.

Ok awesome that's good to know! I've lost a few fish how long would you wait till
adding new fish?

I'd probably give it a month to let the fish and tank recover, and any new fish quarantine them before introducing them to your tank :)

Ok. Sounds like a plan thank you I appreciate the info

It usually takes longer than two weeks to properly cycle a tank. How did you do it?
I wouldn't even dream about adding anymore fish until I can prove my filter is processing all ammonia and nitrite to '0'.

Terry.
