Let me just cut right to the question... What heaters do you all use and what heater would you say is the best without spending a lot?

Eheim Heaters always. Spend as much as it takes, I would never use a cheap heater. The heater holds your whole system together.

don't cut corners on heaters. it's not a nice thing when a heater fails or explodes. it'll no doubts destroy your aquarium and might damage your house.
