i bought another new heater and i plugged it in straight away, i forgot to wait. Can the heater get damaged like this or go faulty?

Well if it isnt in your tank yes The most common way they get damaged is when people do a water change on their tank that drops the level below the height of their heater and leave it on. Contact with the air can cause them to shatter and its a real pain to clear up afterwards.i bought another new heater and i plugged it in straight away, i forgot to wait. Can the heater get damaged like this or go faulty?
what i did was i put the heater in the tank with water lol, left it for 2 minutes and turned it on.
