most LFS will have these. whilst it is a good precaution, i suppose, i'm not sure its a must have bit of kit. but, i feel, its more to protect the heater than the fish. it also gives more places for crap to build up. but at a couple of Quid, it wont break the bank to get one.

got a guard on my 250w vis-therm it hagan one iirc only £3.20 or something like that

You will need to buy something to attatch the Juwel heater to the tank. When I took my Juwel filter out, I used part of a Visitherm (I think) heater cover. They sell them in Pets At Home, among other places, and they come in sections. One has suckers on it to attatch it to the tank. You can also buy other sections which clip onto the sucker one to make a sleeve to cover the whole heater. I don't use whole covers in my community and livebearer tanks, just the bit with the suckers on. I do use a whole cover in the betta's tank though as he likes to sleep wedged vertically between the heater and the filter.

many heater covers come with the required attachments. if not the assistant will sort you some out if you ask when you buy the heater guard.

This is the thing I bought

It fits Juwel heaters and anywhere selling Visitherm should have them - it's apparently called a mounting bracket. The heater guard comes in 2 sizes and just clips on to it. As I said before, I don't use the full guard in most of my tanks. Whether you use one depends what fish are in the tank.
