Fish Crazy
Hey guys.
I had some plants shipped to me about 3 weeks ago now. I got twisted vallis, elodea, amazon sword and rotala macrandra. It seems I'm still getting over the initial teething problems with some of them. The elodea shed all its leaves and made a horrible mess but it's recovered nicely now. The original leaves of the vallis went brown and fell off but was growing so many new leaves that I now have runners off of runners off of runners. The other two seem to be causing a problem though.
1 - The amazon sword. From what I've read, the amazon sword doesn't like being moved and will develop brown patches over the leaves that will eventually need to be pruned. But how can I get rid of the dead leaves without moving the plant again and ultimately causing more brown spots? Some of these leaves are right at the back of the tank so I can't get any scissors to them.
2 - The rotala macrandra. It's a beautiful plant and it's been growing very nicely for the most part, but the bottom leaves keep disintegrating. The stem itself is still a nice pink colour so it's not that it's dying from the bottom up. I think it might be all the new growth at the top of the plant preventing the light getting to the leaves at the bottom. Or is it a sign of the light generally not being strong enough?
3 - Brown algae. The bane of my life. I know there's tonnes of ways to get rid of brown algae but I have a bit of a conundrum in that I kind of need the algae for my otos, who prefer eating it from the bogwood and tend not to touch the leaves of my plants. How can I save my plants from this but still have it growing elsewhere?
Thanks for reading. I know it was a tad lengthy
