Well, a lot of work trying to move the contents of 2 tanks into one... but I am now done. Gravel moved, plants moved, decor moved, filter media and filters moved, fish moved.

Still the odd thing or two needs doing, but pretty much all finished.

Just not looking forward to cleaning the two other tanks.... hard to get a good pic, but gives a good idea.

anyway, here is what it looks like:

Looks very nice. I'm also in the process of setting up a new 55 G tank, and so far I have built the stand and now testing the tank for any leakage. I usually leave the filled with water for about 24hrs. to make sure there are no leaks, but I am being impatient and just want to get this setup. It's been 12hrs. now since the water has been in the tank. What I want to do is add sand and went to couple of locals pet stores and could not decide which one to put in. I like the one you added in your tank, what name does this sand go by?

Also, how long did you wait till you moved your fish into the new tank? I am going to be adding water from old tank to new and also soak the new filter foam pads in the old tank and throw it in the new filter to speed the cycle. However, I am afraid to put any of my fishes in the new tank for atleast 2 days. Should I wait longer or 2 days is enough for the bacteria cycle to get started.

Thanks.

Thanks for for feedback :)

I had the tank running for 2 days to make sure it was not leaking and to get hte temerature right.

On Friday evening I moved the fish from my 70 litre to my 120 litre, and then moved all plants, gravel and decor from 70 to the big tank.

First thing saturday morning, I placed all fish into the 70 and covered it o keep them from getting stressed. I then moved all gravel, plants and decor from the 120 to the big tank.

I moved the all filter media form the 120 into the filter for the larger tank, and moved a second filter I had in the 120 into the new tank.

All fished were moved into the larger tank after all this. And I tell you, they are just so much more enjoyable to watch!

They can now swim in all directions, and not just from side to side. And the shoaling fish actually look like shoals.... brilliant!

Good luck with your moving. Once it is all done I am sure you will wonder how you ever enoyed the smaller tanks!

After all this oving things about, if I were going to experience a mini-cycle, how long would it take before this happened?

I have just done tests and all checked out fine. Does that mean I am in the clear, or is there still a possibility it will all go pear shaped?

It is probably just a little less than 24 hours since I moved everything...

I just got my new tank setup. I was wondering how do you clean the sand with the syphon cleaner. I mean the fish waste has been accumulated in one area of the tank and I want to take it out but afraid that I will also vacuum out the sand in the tank. How do you clean your sand?

Thanks.

Just hold the siphon just above the sand and most of the much should be sucked up. Some sand will get sucked up too inevitably, but that is to be expected.
