no this is normal it is just another form usually of algae

What colour are they? How long? They are probably algae of some sort, obviously you don't really want algae so you should try getting rid of it! Here's a link that might help you identify it: Algae guide

I think it's from high light and fast water, it isn't that bad at the min an some of my fish seem to like eating it

Fair enough! If if does get worse you may want to have a shorter photoperiod or look at other ways to get rid of it.
