I have a 10 gallon fish tank with different species (no terratorial fish). I had a male and female guppy. The male has just died and the female is on her way.

I have noticed that she is having trouble maintaining bouyancy, does anyone know why all this is happening.

All the other fish; plattys, algae eaters, neon tetras, rummy noses, panda fish, x-ray tetras, mollys and harlequin rasboros are perfectly fine..

Thanks

Sounds like swim bladder, what do you feed the fish, try a shelled pea on her, if that dosn't help you will need to issolate her and use an internal bacteria med.

Sorry didn't see the fish listed, how many fish of each do you have in the tank, post test results in ammonia, nitrite, nitrate, and ph, just to make sure.

Thanks for the responses,

In answer to some questions, the fish tank sounds well over stocked but it isn't. The tank takes 10 gallons and is approximately:

15 Inches in Width
18 Inches in Height
10 Inches in Depth

Our local fish shop owner who we have gotten to know well has agreed that the tank and quantity of fish are ok, we have only bought small fish that only grow a couple of inches and we have about 30.

I have a good filter system and an air stone that breaks the water surface very well oxygenating the tank.

I feed them on 'TetraMin' flake food that says 'for all tropical fish' and my ph and nitrates are fine (just tested them). I clean and change the water and add the appropriate aqua safe fluid.

Sounds like a swim bladder problem to me too, that's what I thought before posting first time, what can be done about this?

Thanks again..............you are all very helpful people out there.

Your PH and nitrAtes may be fine but what can really kill off your fish is nitrItes. You should test for nitrItes as well. To me your tank is very overstocked even if you had very good filtration I would do a 25% water change ever other day for that many fish.
