I'm so excited but also nervous about the fresh start so I'll be asking for lots of advice on setting this up ... hope you don't mind lol

Yes, that does say £124.99 - BARGIN!!!!

Funny, I was just thinking... Why would I pay £124.99 for a 80x35x40, when I could pay £51 for a 150x60x60; £25 for a 120x30x38; £20 for a 62x39x72?:fun: (I bought my first two tanks new, the Rio240 and Korall60, before discovering the bargains to be had, by buying second-hand for the many people that leave the hobby or upgrade themselves)

But if that is what you wanted, enjoy the new tank and whatever fish you have planned for it. :good:

it's all in there - filter, heater, lighting. The thing was I've had two 2nd hand tanks now - my 26 litre bought for £3.00 from the charity shop that I work in and now my 2ft Elite that my neighbour gave me for free. I felt I've done my learning curve and now I wanted something new.

Plus, all the 2nd hand ones on ebay either wern't in my area (all seemed to be down south) or they had reserves on for higher than £100.
I figured if I was looking to spend around £100 on a tank I may aswell buy it new, with everything included to set it up, than hand over £100 to someone for 2nd hand that may well pour water all over my flat (and the flat below) during the night!

I'd spend a good two weeks researching the deals and had found a Jewel 800 at my lfs for £140. It had been £280 before the sale. I spotted this today for even less so I jumped.

I also live in a very small flat. The maximum size I could comfortably fit was 3ft without removing all my furnicture first!

Enjoy. What kind of setup in mind?

Argh! That's the burning question. I have black gravel at the moment and it's fairly new. I could get another small bag for about £4.00 and re-use it ... but I saw a bag of black glittery style sand at the same shop where I got the tank for £22 ... I'm so undecided.

I want to take my time - the fish are happy where they are for now. I want to be a bit creative but I havn't a clue where to start!!

All my large tanks are second hand, but only because the LFS wanted to rape my wallet. All of my smaller tanks I bought new though.

sooo ... here comes question number 1:

The filter box is fixed in one corner and goes top to bottom. If I put say a couple of inch deep sand in there won't that block this filter up?

I want to heavily plant so any substrate would need to be a couple of inch deep to hold them in place

sometime you cant always find one in your area, some people cant large tanks in their cars, some people don't want to risk leaks, lots of reasons why not to.

Right place right is a massive factor in second hand if you cant save money fair play :good:

No it wont block it, dirt build up fairly bad there after a few months.

If you want some experienced advice remove the box now before you start and get an external....you will i promise want to do within 6 months and it a pain with fish in :good:

The corner box is already fixed in. That is how it came. I'm also wanting to seed this tank from my existing. There's a green sponge, a blue sponge, a black sponge and this fine wooly white one. One will have to go to fit in some media from my Interpet PF2 ... but which one? I was thinking maybe the carbon ...?

Take out the carbon and just cram all your old sponges in there and you'll be good to go. Yay!

thanks Soybean, that's what I thought ... it would seem I am learning something lol

okay. (Stupid) question no2:

You know I said I wanted to get creative. Well, this may be a mad suggestion but I was wondering what would happen if I bought this bag of black sand and mixed it with my black gravel? It looks cool in my head but is it a really silly idea that just wouldn't work?

Keep the carbon incase you ever need it. Get it done tomorrow, I want to see it after all the umming and ahhing over getting it!

hahaha it's not gonna happen that quickly! I'm waiting for my Dad to cut me a board for it to sit on, then I've to sort out the gravel issue and buy some plants etc ... I'm looking at having it running and ready for fish by the end of the month ...

they say patience is a virtue

No it wont work the sand will just fall through the gravel
